REVIEW: I’m Calm by Jayneen Sanders

REVIEW: I’m Calm by Jayneen Sanders

October 25, 2024 By Jessica Morris

The only thing we love more than a great book that teaches children emotional regulation, its a FREE book that teaches kids about their feelings! That’s right, the cute picture book ‘I’m Calm’, written by author, publisher and teacher Jayneen Sanders, and illustrated by Cherie Zamazing, is currently available as a free download on Educate2Empower. And we think you, and your kids, will love it!

Based on the character of Theo, the books explores how he navigates changes and challenges in his day. From working parents, to life with a baby, stressful deadlines, and grandparents who are freaking out, Theo remains calm and keeps his cool using the strategies his teacher taught him.

Showcasing strategies like deep breathing, yoga, mindfulness and empathy, kids will immediately relate to Theo. We love how the simplicity of this book empowers kids to practice their own emotional regulation. The fact there are pictures of Theo practicing these tools is even better, because kids (and their parents/guardians) can copy this and ask, “What would Theo do?”.

Created for kids aged 3-11, the simple story skews towards a younger audience. However, because the book is so relatable and easy to read, it will be useful across all ages. Especially for kids who are learning how to manage stress and anxiety for the first time, and who want to model it to their families.

As a bonus, Equip2Empower also provide free discussion questions, so you can feel equipped as an adult to use this book to its fullest capacity. It’s not just story time for your child – it’s a fun and empowering lesson that can use roleplay.

Download the free e-version of I’m Calm here.
It is also available for purchase as a paperback/hardcover here.
