If you would like to write for Watersedge, there are some things you need to know before you hit that ‘submit’ button. Start by reading our blog here.
WHO CAN WRITE FOR WATERSEDGE?
We are open to submissions from experts in their field, writers, journalists, publicists and communicators. Emerging writers and professionals are also encouraged to submit as they build their resume.
HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY?
At this time, Watersedge does not offer payment for articles. We do, however, include your name in a byline and a short bio with a link to your portfolio.
WILL YOU ADD MY LINK TO A PREVIOUS POST?
Watersedge will not include your link in a previous listicle or article. If you want Watersedge to share your content, consider submitting it for republishing.
HOW LONG IS A BLOG?
A blog runs between 400-900 words and may include an original infographic if it is shorter. Our tone is engaging and understandable to the common person.
Please send us your article in a Microsoft Word document, and edit your word length – otherwise we have to cut it down! Please note, we are an Australian business, so we appreciate if you format your article in English – AU.
Don’t worry about including a banner image with your submission, our editor will create this once an article is approved.
WHAT DO YOU PUBLISH?
Watersedge publishes original, informative and empowering articles on topics such as:
- Mental wellness/mental health
- Couple/family relationships
- Trauma and specific mental health diagnoses
- Self-care and wellbeing
- Sleep and how it affects wellbeing and relationships
- Professional supervision
- Becoming job ready
- Building a healthier workplace
- Managing stress and burnout
- Becoming more culturally aware
- Anger issues
- Parenting
- Spiritual direction/growth
- Book reviews/movie reviews on any of the above topics
WHAT DON’T YOU PUBLISH?
Watersedge does not publish pirated content, or anything that is deemed factually incorrect or misleading. We will not endorse a particular product or service through a guest blog post.
Please do not submit pitches based on any of these topics:
- Health products/programs
- Using Cannabis or Hemp
- Drinking alcohol
- The use of specific medicines and drugs
- Dating websites
- Sexual/erotica websites
- Rehabilitation centres
- Lawyers/legal representation
- Location specific blogs that are outside of Geelong, Victoria, Australia
- Topics that are not relevant to Watersedge and our clients
DO YOU PUBLISH BACKLINKS?
We understand that many writers use backlinks to gain payment for their work, and are open to including these in your article if:
- The backlink is logically connected to your article (E.g. Please don’t submit a backlink for popcorn maker and insert it in an article about depression).
- The backlink does not endorse a business or product contrary to our mission.
- The backlink is relevant to a wide audience, and is not location specific.
We are very selective about publishing backlinks associated with individual products or businesses. If you are looking to submit an article based on one of these, consider widening the theme of your blog so it becomes a point, rather than a product review.
E.g. If you wish to backlink to a mattress, pitch an article on ‘4 ways to overcome insomnia’ or ‘How to create a bedtime routine for kids’.
WILL YOU REVIEW MY BOOK OR INTERVIEW ME?
Due to time constraints, our editor is unable to review book submissions, or coordinate and publish interviews with experts and professionals.
If this is you, please consider submitting a first-person blog to our editor about your journey or expertise. Alternatively, send a reformatted interview to us that we could publish. We will also consider publishing media releases.
WILL YOU REPUBLISH MY ARTICLE?
If you have previously written an article and it has been published on your personal or business website, we are willing to republish it on WatersedgeCounselling.com if our editor feels it will benefits our readers and clients. This will include a backlink to the original article.
DO YOU ACCEPT FULL ARTICLES, OR JUST PITCHES/STORY IDEAS FROM PEOPLE?
We will read through finished articles if you send them, however we can’t guarantee they will be published. We recommend sending our editor a list of 2-3 story ideas that fit your expertise. If we are interested, she will respond with the story and a deadline for you. Once the story comes through, she will work with you to finalise the copy.
Please note, we can’t promise every article will be published. Our editor works to make every piece publication ready, but in the case the writing not up to standard, does not fit our brand or style, or the subject is not timely, we will have to pass on the article.
I HAVE WRITTEN FOR WATERSEDGE BEFORE, DOES THAT MEAN MY NEXT STORY IS GUARANTEED TO BE PUBLISHED?
We love working with our ever-expanding team of writers! If you have successfully been published by WatersgeCounselling.com in the past, please communicate with our editor directly. She is more than happy to workshop ideas and stories with you whenever possible!
A blog is published based on its quality, timeliness, and how effectively it fulfills our mission, so if she feels your submission does not meet this, your blog will not be published.
