This artist explains self-care perfectly

‘Self-care’ is the latest buzzword, and it seems like everyone is taking bubble paths with scented candles. At least that what Instagram would have us believe. But even before it was Insta-worthy, self-care was an essential part of life for many people—particularly those who live with a mental illness, or live with constant stress or chronic illness.

But surely self-care has to be about more than scented candles, right?

Absolutely. It’s a strategy that helps people in recovery, and eases physical, mental and emotional pain and fatigue. Without it, we would burn out, get sick or struggle to function.

Artist Hannah Daisy has a series called #BoringSelfCare, and in it she captures the reality of self-care perfectly. Sometimes it looks like fluffy slippers and a good book, but other times self-care looks…boring. It means taking a shower for the first time in days, putting sunscreen on, going to see the doctor or vacuuming.

These ‘small’ things often go unnoticed and aren’t celebrated because we assume everyone else is capable of completing these tasks. But when we are struggling, they are often the hardest things to do.

Here are some of our favourite #BoringSelfCare illustrations by Hannah Daisy. To see more of her work, find her on Instagram at @makedaisychains.

It’s time to celebrate the small achievements, however boring they may be. What #BoringSelfCare can you practice today?

Do you want to slow down and take care of yourself? Would you like to learn more about self-care? Here’s what you need to do: Call Colleen on 0434 337 245 or Duncan on 0434 331 243  for a FREE 10 minute consultation. To make an appointment, go to BOOK NOW.
