Do you want to support your child through their big feelings but don’t know where to start? Therapist.com have released a free workbook for caregivers and kids that is not only practical, but fun as well.
Available here, the workbook has activities on grounding, the window of tolerance, boundaries and developing identity. By far the best part for kids is the Mission section. Over four pages filled with colour (and narrated by a cute alien none the less) a child creates their own profile, draws their family, and even chooses their super powering.
We love the strength based approach to this workbook (and a certificate reward at the end is definitely a winner). With spaces for drawing, colouring and answering questions it is highly interactive. Exercises can be adapted by the caregiver depending on the age of the child, but any child from age 8 up will enjoy this.
There is a lot of text on the first few pages, and while the caregiver will appreciate learning the information which is perfect for building Emotional Intelligence, not all kids will happily read and digest it. In these areas, it’s best to pre read and then explain it to the child yourself, otherwise they will lose interest before they begin. Or, read a small section and ask a question! It’s also worth noting that there are a few mental health based advertisements placed through this free resource.
